Lagerweij runs well along in the world
Tug of War Association Lagerweij has from 18 / m February 21 participated in the World indoor tug of war. For the first time in years, they do not have to travel to foreign countries, this year took place the World Cup in their own country, namely in Volendam.
After a good NK, with gold, silver and bronze in three weight classes, the spearheads of Renswoude went with a good feeling in the tournament. Thursday afternoon the men were first in action with two teams in the class up to 640 kg. Lagerweij B had a relatively light plow a difficult day and unfortunately only managed to grab a point of TTV Green Oasis from Maasland. Lagerweij A was more visible and took long time for a place in the semifinals. It was won by Dutch champion TTV Monnickendam, but unfortunately this took so much power that the party lost then became Deinum-Britsum. For a place in the top four of the men had Lagerweij winning the Irish St Pats, but this team appeared a size too big. This allows the team Renswoude was shared fifth in a league with 21 teams.
Friday morning it was time for the men's 600 kg class. In a strong field of 26 teams, all of a very high level, it would be difficult to get a medal. In the group TTV Lagerweij proceeded expeditiously and include a nice win against Chiao Tai from Taiwan were the men as group winners advance to the quarterfinals. There it was up today for the third time against a club from the Basque country, but Mr Ibarra could not stop the onslaught of Lagerweij. In the semifinals proved St. Pats Lagerweij so again too strong remained only the battle for the bronze. This battle had to be fought with the Basque Sokarri, a very strong team defensively proceeded. Lagerweij came out strong from the start and took the initiative in both innings haul, but unfortunately could not finish the fatigue. So the men of Renswoude had to settle for a sour fourth.
Later that day TTV Lagerweij was still in action with its heaviest formation, namely in the class up to 680 kg. In this composition, the club could not impress and stranded one in fifth place.
Saturday and Sunday it was time for the World Cup for national teams, where TTV Lagerweij also had a small contribution. The national men's team to 560 kg were drawn Saturday six men of Lagerweij, but at this very difficult class was unfortunately only took a point from France. In the afternoon it was the turn of the 640 kg class. This team consisted of a selection of TTV Monnickendam, plus Arjan Davelaar of TTV Lagerweij. In a strong field increased this young team above himself and as the men pushed even through to the final. Scotland proved unfortunately a bit too big, but the silver medal was a great result. The last Lagerweij action in this World Cup came in the name of Annelies Hilhorst and Caroline van der Helm, they knew the mix team based (4 men, 4 women) to grab fourth place.
The spearheads of TTV Lagerweij have at this tournament showed again that they do compete with the best in the world and despite the absence of a medal very pleased with the results. This certainly offers prospects for the international jubilee tournament of the association, next February, and the next World Cup in 2018, which will take place in China.
